How To Get Your A/C In Shape Before Summer
Summer is quickly approaching in the Forney area and A/C maintenance requests and A/C repair requests are coming in quickly. Before summer really gets here and we are sitting in 100 degree heat, this article provides some tips on how to get your A/C in shape for the summer.
We do recommend that you maintain your air conditioner and have it serviced at least twice a year, usually once in fall and once in the spring. But, in the event you don’t have time to schedule it or summer arrives before you can have a technician come out, below are some tips.
1. Clean and Replace Filters – This is a very easy and important step that nearly any homeowner can do. There are several places to buy air filters in Forney, like Walmart or Home Depot.
2. Clean the A/C Condenser Coils – While this is typically performed by an A/C company, homeowners can do this themselves. A central air conditioner’s condenser unit, typically located outdoors, is like a large fan in a metal box with sides that look like grilles. Making sure the condenser is clean and free of dirt and debris is important because it allows the unit to function efficiently.
3. Check the Coolant Lines – The coolant lines are usually insulated and run from the evaporator on the air handler to the condenser outside. These coolant lines should be insulated if they are not. To insulate them, install foam insulation sleeves over the exposed pipe area and secure with foam insulation tape.
These are some simple maintenance tips that most homeowners can check and perform themselves to make sure their air conditioner is in shape for the summer months.
